Prepping Candidates

I read an article on one of the FB groups this week where a recruiter was telling everyone that it was sacrilege to prep a candidate for an interview. This is categorically absurd.

Let’s start by looking at recruiters. We’ve spent a lot of time in recent weeks helping you with how to scale your firm. Hypothetically, we can assume a recruiter should be able to interview well. This is what we do for a living, so it shouldn’t be a far reach.

Here’s the million-dollar question. Because they can interview well, does that these recruiters are going to have a good work ethic and be a good hire? Nope. It sure doesn’t.

Perhaps someone can explain to me how the quality of someone’s interviewing skills is an accurate indication of their ability to write code. Or build a bridge. Or run a manufacturing plant.

As recruiters, we’re doing a disservice to our clients if we don’t prep our candidates. How else are we going to overcome the massive misconception that how well someone interviews is a real indication of how well they’ll do their job?

Rant over.
